This module is to familiarise the student with the terminology used to describe the main components of the traditional single-CPU computer system.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this module, the student should be able to:
- Identify and describe the major types of a computer system and performance issues,
- Describe and explain the function of the hardware components of a typical personal computer,
- Assemble and test the components of a computer system,
- Install an operating system and applications software onto a computer,
- Describe the main features of a Local Area Network including access features and
- Distribute electronic mail and manage files over a local area network.
