This module will enable a student to use a local area network through the sharing of resources and use of the mail facility. This module should be seen as an introduction to LANs, with the use of LANs as the major outcome. In addition though, students will be able to build upon this foundation to further their study in computer networking.

At the end of this module, the student should be able to:

1. Describe the main features of a local area network,
2. Access a local area network,
3. Use a printing services on a local area network,
4. Distribute electronic mail over a local area network and
5. Manage file on a local area network.
